Cutera Laser

HOW DOES THE LASER WORK?
The Genesis Plus™ works by shining a focused beam of light in a narrow range into a toenail infected with fungus (onychomycosis). The laser penetrates the toenail and vaporizes fungus embedded in the nail bed and nail plate where toenail fungus exists. The Genesis Plus™ is tuned to a specific frequency that affects cells that are responsible for infection. Unlike other lasers that are used for skin or pain treatments, the patented Genesis Plus™ laser is designed and used to safely destroy molds and bacteria that cause fungus nail infections.

IS THIS LASER PAINFUL?
The gentle laser light beam has no effect on healthy tissue. There is no pain but some patients may experience temporary warmth in the nail during treatment. This treatment does not harm or affect your activity in any way.

HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE?
Treatments can be done in as little as 30 minutes in the office.

DOES IT REALLY WORK?
The Genesis Plus™ laser is cleared by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for the treatment of nail fungus. In the latest clinical study 81% of all patients treated sustained a clear nail improvement at 12 months after a single treatment. After the one 30-minute treatment, the nail plate should grow out clear in 8-12 months if there is a healthy nail bed. This result is better than the results reported for the oral pill, which you take for three months with some risk of side effects.

BEFORE & AFTER

IS THIS TREATMENT SAFE?
There are no age or health restrictions or limitations. In clinical studies there have been no adverse reactions, injuries, disabilities or known side effects.

HOW DOES THE LASER TREATMENT COMPARE TO OTHER TREATMENT OPTIONS?
Oral medications now used to treat toenails must be taken daily for months and carry with them some side effects that can affect the liver, kidneys, and skin. Topical treatments have limited success and require the patient to follow a strict treatment plan.

HOW SOON WILL I SEE IMPROVEMENT TO MY TOENAILS AFTER TREATMENT WITH THE LASER?
On average, any toenail will replace itself every 6 to 9 months through natural growth. Healthy new growth will be visible within the first 3 months as the new nail replaces the old.

DOES MY INSURANCE PAY FOR THIS?
Currently the laser toenail fungus procedure is not included as a health insurance benefit in any plan that we know of. Insurance plans will consider the laser toenail fungus treatment a cosmetic/aesthetic procedureand therefore does not provide coverage. If you have a Health Savings Account (HSA), Medical Individual Retirement Account (Medical IRA) or other Flexible Medical Spending Accounts (Medical FSA), you can pay for the laser fungus treatment with these funds. Otherwise, payment can be made with cash, credit or debit card or CareCredit.

HOW MUCH DOES IT COST?
There is a consultation with the doctor to see if you are a candidate for the treatment and that fee can be billed to your insurance. The treatment fee can be discussed in the office as there are a few different treatment programs offered which includes any necessary nail preparation, post treatment counseling and any follow up visits to check your results. The best results are obtained when the laser treatment is applied to all of the toenails on both feet, even the ones that appear uninfected. This creates an environment free of nail fungus and reduces the chance of re-infection.

MLS Laser

What is MLS?
MLS Stands for Multi-wave Lock System. MLS is the name of the technology used that utilizes the patented combination of wavelengths.

Laser therapy uses light to favor and accelerate the body’s natural healing processes. The laser beam is moved over the skin so that the light energy (photons) penetrates the tissue where it interacts with various molecules (chromophores) that cause different biological effects. It produces a photochemical, photothermal and photomechanical effect.

The M6 is a robotized multitarget device designed to treat patients suffering pathologies affecting a wide area, and to perform automatic applications.

The distinctive feature of the M6 is the innovative multitarget functioning. Thanks to the features of the exclusive MLS multidiodic optical group, a wide area is treated instantaneously helping to produce an immediate response of the treated tissues. The results are better and faster than with the scanning modality of traditional laser therapy products.
